Young children need to know certain things before they can learn to read. Babies start gaining these early literacy skills the day they are born. Children (birth to 5 years old) learn these skills when families read aloud to them. Have fun reading aloud to your children early and often. Reading to your children gives them a better chance for success in school and in life.
